A litigation power of attorney records who may act for you before the Dubai Courts and what they may do. Under the federal rules, only a licensed UAE national lawyer may actually appear, so this document appoints one rather than substituting for one.

What it is
A power of attorney naming Dubai Courts and the powers your representative may exercise. One thing to be straight about first: Dubai Courts does not make its service pages available to us to read, so everything below that describes a rule comes from the federal portal and is labelled as federal, not as Dubai Courts' own published requirement.

Why this page is shorter than our other authority pages
We write these pages from what the receiving authority publishes. For Dubai Courts we cannot: dc.gov.ae has not been retrievable for us, and where an authority's pages decline automated retrieval we respect that rather than work around it. So we hold no Dubai Courts document listing a required power-of-attorney wording, fee, form or procedure.
That is worth saying plainly, because plenty of pages will tell you confidently what "Dubai Courts requires" of a litigation power of attorney. We cannot show you where that comes from, so we do not repeat it.
What we can do is work from the federal rules that govern proceedings before the UAE courts, and be explicit that they are federal.
What the federal portal publishes about representation
The UAE Government portal sets out how a representative proves their authority and who may actually appear. On authority, it states that a representative "must prove his appointment through an official power of attorney attested by a notary public", and describes the scope as the "power to perform all necessary actions and procedures to file a lawsuit".
On who may appear, it is narrower than most people expect: "Only UAE national lawyers with a valid licence are allowed to appear" before the UAE courts, and they must be "licensed by the UAE's Ministry of Justice and must be registered in the roll". A power of attorney does not make somebody eligible to appear who is not otherwise eligible - it records the authority of somebody who is.
On language: "Documents presented to the UAE's courts must be in Arabic", and where translation is needed it must be "translated into Arabic by a legal translator approved by the UAE's Ministry of Justice".

Federal is not the same as Dubai
This distinction matters enough to give it its own heading, because getting it wrong is how a confident-sounding page becomes a wrong one. Dubai Courts is an emirate-level judicial authority. The wording quoted above is from the federal portal and describes proceedings before the UAE courts under the federal framework.
It is the best-sourced material we have, and it is not a substitute for Dubai Courts' own published requirements. Where those two might differ, we do not know, and we are not going to guess on a page someone may rely on.

Common questions
What wording does Dubai Courts require?
We do not know, and we will not invent it. Dubai Courts' service pages have not been retrievable for us, so we hold no document from that authority naming a required wording. We draft to the powers you specify and to the federal requirement that authority be proved by "an official power of attorney attested by a notary public". If your lawyer gives us wording Dubai Courts has asked for, we will draft to that instead.
Can I appoint anyone I like to represent me?
Not to appear in court. The federal portal states that "Only UAE national lawyers with a valid licence are allowed to appear" before the UAE courts, licensed by the Ministry of Justice and registered in the roll. A power of attorney records who you have authorised; it does not create eligibility to appear. Appointing someone ineligible produces a valid document that cannot be used for the thing you wanted.
Does it have to be notarised?
For court representation, the federal portal states a representative "must prove his appointment through an official power of attorney attested by a notary public". If you are signing outside the UAE there is an additional authentication chain, which depends on the country you are signing in and which our guide on using a UAE power of attorney abroad sets out.
Does it need to be in Arabic?
The federal portal states that "Documents presented to the UAE's courts must be in Arabic", and that translation must be "by a legal translator approved by the UAE's Ministry of Justice". We prepare bilingually so you can read what you are signing, and so the Arabic is there when it is needed.
Can this be used for rental disputes at RDC?
Only if the Rental Disputes Center and the stages you need are actually named in the scope. RDC publishes its own process, its own fee schedule, and a "AED 25 Registration of Power of Attorney (if applicable)" charge, and our RDC page is written from those published pages rather than from federal rules. If RDC is where your matter is, start there.
Why does your RDC page say more than this one?
Because the Rental Disputes Center publishes more. Its fees, stages, document rules and representative service are all on its own website, so we can quote them. Dubai Courts' pages are not available to us. The difference in length between these two pages is a difference in evidence, not in how much we care about the matter.
