DIFC Will types: what each one covers and where it stops
DIFC Courts currently presents six routes: Full, Property, Financial Assets, Business Owners, Guardianship and Digital Assets Wills. The right route depends on what must be covered, whether guardians are needed, how often the asset list changes, and how the UAE Will interacts with documents in other countries. A product name is not legal advice: confirm eligibility and drafting with the registry and a qualified adviser.

The six routes at a glance
The DIFC Courts FAQ still describes the five long-established types, while current service navigation also includes the newer Digital Assets Will. That is why a current comparison should show six and date its sources rather than silently copying an older table.
| Will type | Published scope | Important boundary |
|---|---|---|
| Full Will | Movable and immovable assets in the stated jurisdiction; may include interim and permanent guardians. | A bespoke scope needs legal review, especially for assets outside the UAE or interaction with another Will. |
| Property Will | Up to five UAE real estate properties. | It is asset-specific; a new property may require a modification. |
| Financial Assets Will | Up to ten UAE bank or brokerage accounts within the published conditions. | It is not a general estate or company-share Will. |
| Business Owners Will | Up to five UAE company shareholdings. | It covers the named shareholdings, not every company power or personal asset. |
| Guardianship Will | Guardians for minor children only. | It does not distribute assets. |
| Digital Assets Will | The DIFC digital-assets route and wallet described by the Courts. | Digital assets, access and custody need specialist review; do not assume every online account is covered. |

Full Will: widest published coverage, not automatic simplicity
A Full Will is the route for a testator who wants one DIFC document to cover movable and immovable assets within its stated jurisdiction. DIFC says guardians may also be appointed for eligible minor children.
The wider scope makes coordination more important. Existing foreign wills, jointly held assets, company structures, beneficiary designations and assets outside the UAE can change the analysis. DIFC itself urges legal advice where a Full Will is extended beyond the UAE.
Asset-specific templates: Property, Financial Assets and Business Owners
These routes are deliberately narrower. A Property Will names up to five UAE properties; a Financial Assets Will names up to ten qualifying UAE bank or brokerage accounts; a Business Owners Will names up to five UAE shareholdings.
The advantage is focus. The trade-off is maintenance: because the listed assets matter, acquisitions, disposals, account changes or restructurings can require a new review and modification.
Guardianship and Digital Assets answer different questions
A Guardianship Will records guardianship appointments and does not distribute assets. The Digital Assets Will is a specialist route introduced for digital assets through the DIFC Courts system. Neither should be treated as a substitute for a complete estate review.
Selection checklist before drafting
List the assets, ownership form, location, existing wills, intended beneficiaries, executors and guardians. Mark which facts may change soon. Then compare the list against the current registry scope and obtain legal review of overlaps or exclusions.
- Asset type and country
- Sole, joint, nominee, trust or company ownership
- Existing wills and beneficiary nominations
- Minor children and guardianship needs
- Executors and alternates
- Likely acquisitions, sales or account changes
Legal-review notice
The Deedbox is not a court and this comparison is not legal advice. No Will should be drafted, changed, registered or relied on without checking the current DIFC rules, the testator’s eligibility and the effect on every relevant jurisdiction.
Questions
How many DIFC Will types are there?
Current DIFC service navigation shows six: Full, Property, Financial Assets, Business Owners, Guardianship and Digital Assets Wills. The FAQ still describes the five established routes, so check the current service pages when choosing.
Can one DIFC Property Will cover more than five properties?
The DIFC FAQ says a Property Will covers up to five UAE real estate properties. A broader estate may point toward a Full Will, subject to legal review.
Can a Guardianship Will distribute property?
No. DIFC describes it as a guardianship-only route. A Full Will can combine eligible asset distribution and guardianship provisions.
What this page does not do
- This is general legal information, not legal advice, a registry approval, a notarial acceptance decision or a prediction of a court outcome.
- The receiving authority, bank, company, registry, notary or court decides what wording, form, identity evidence and supporting documents it will accept for the particular transaction.
- Official procedures and fees can change. Follow the current authority page and obtain qualified legal review before signing, registering, revoking or relying on a document.
