Power of Attorney for Investment Management in UAE

A POA for investment management authorizes someone to manage your stocks, funds, and investment portfolio. Understand broker requirements, notarization steps, and which POA type your investment firm will accept.

A UAE power of attorney for investment activity should be drafted around the receiving broker's written requirements, the account involved and the exact actions the representative may take. No single POA acceptance rule applies across all receivers. Confirm the receiver's rules first, then use the UAE authority route available for the document and the parties.

An investment POA can be written to describe selected acts, such as giving instructions concerning securities, receiving statements, dealing with a named account or completing an identified transaction. The authority should be no broader than the purpose requires. The account provider decides whether the document, wording and identity checks satisfy its own requirements.

A broad general POA and a transaction-specific authority are not interchangeable. The useful question is not which label sounds stronger, but which powers the receiver needs to see. Our general and special POA guide explains that distinction without assuming that one form works for every institution.

Before drafting, identify:

  • the licensed institution and account reference;
  • the assets or products concerned;
  • whether the representative may give instructions, sign forms, receive information or withdraw funds;
  • any monetary, product or time limit;
  • whether one representative or joint representatives will act;
  • the receiver's required wording, form and identification process; and
  • the UAE authority or digital service that will handle the document.

Is there one notarisation route for UAE investment firms?

No. The available government route and the receiver's acceptance rules are separate questions. The UAE Ministry of Justice publishes a service for writing and authenticating contracts and deeds, including general and special powers of attorney. Its published process uses UAE PASS, electronic submission, payment and electronic receipt of the document. That publication proves that this federal digital route exists; it does not prove that every applicant, transaction or broker can use the same template. See the Ministry of Justice service page.

The Ministry has also published that its digital POA programme includes a category for stocks. The current portal, the applicant's identity and the proposed scope still control what can actually be issued. See the Ministry's digital POA announcement.

Do not rely on a generic statement that a broker accepts “UAE court POAs.” Ask the institution to confirm the following in writing:

Question for the receiving institutionWhy it matters
Do you accept authority granted through a POA for this account?Some account types or regulated activities may have separate controls.
Do you require your own wording or form?A general draft may omit a receiver-specific power or declaration.
Which acts may the representative perform?Trading, information access and withdrawals may be treated differently.
What identity and compliance checks apply?The representative may need separate KYC or account access approval.
Which issuing or authentication routes do you accept?The document route must match the receiver's current policy.
Do you need an Arabic version or certified translation?Language requirements depend on the authority and receiver.
How should revocation be notified?The principal needs the receiver's operational process, not only a new document.

Check the institution before naming it in the POA

The institution's name and regulatory status should be verified from an official register rather than copied from an advertisement or an old list. The Securities and Commodities Authority provides a licensed-companies register. For firms operating in or from the Dubai International Financial Centre, the Dubai Financial Services Authority provides its own public register.

A register entry establishes the activities and status shown by that regulator. It does not establish that the firm will accept a particular POA. Obtain the receiving institution's own confirmation before finalising the document.

What is the practical preparation process?

  1. Ask the receiver first. Obtain its current POA checklist, required wording and submission method.
  2. Define the authority. List only the accounts, products, acts, limits and duration needed for the intended purpose.
  3. Confirm the parties. Check the principal's and representative's names and identification exactly as they appear on current documents.
  4. Choose the document route. Determine which UAE authority or digital service is available for those parties and that document type.
  5. Prepare the draft. The Deedbox can prepare the wording from the confirmed receiver requirements and the information supplied by the client.
  6. Complete the authority process. The relevant government authority, not The Deedbox, authenticates or issues the document under its applicable process.
  7. Submit to the receiver. The broker, bank or investment institution completes its own review and decides what access, if any, it will activate.
  8. Keep an audit trail. Retain the issued document, receiver correspondence and any instructions given to the representative.

This sequence avoids presenting document preparation as the same thing as government issuance or broker acceptance.

Can the principal be outside the UAE?

Being overseas does not by itself answer which route is available. The principal's identity documents, UAE PASS access, residence status, location and the receiver's policy can affect the process. Start with the receiver's required document, then check the current authority channel for the principal's circumstances.

Our guide to making a power of attorney from outside the UAE explains the main route questions. It should not be read as a promise that an overseas applicant can use every UAE digital template or avoid all foreign authentication steps. The relevant authority and receiving institution decide what they require.

What should not be promised in advance?

Do not promise a fixed total price, a guaranteed processing period or automatic acceptance without current written evidence. Government fees relate to a particular authority service, while drafting, translation, courier, compliance and receiver charges are separate. Timings can also depend on identity review, appointment availability, document changes and the receiving institution's compliance process.

The Deedbox confirms its own professional fee before work begins. Authority and third-party charges should be checked from their current publications or portals.

Frequently asked questions

Can one POA cover several brokers?

Possibly, but only if its wording and each receiver's policy support that scope. A receiver-specific document may be clearer. Confirm with every institution before drafting.

Can the representative withdraw money as well as place instructions?

Only if the intended scope, authority process and receiver policy permit it. Treat withdrawal authority as a separate decision and state any limits expressly.

Does a digital UAE POA guarantee broker acceptance?

No. Government issuance and receiver acceptance are different stages. The institution applies its own regulatory, account and identity controls.

Who handles authentication or issuance?

The Deedbox prepares the document and coordinates the process. The relevant UAE authority handles authentication or issuance, and the receiving institution decides whether it will act on the document.

What The Deedbox can do

The Deedbox can prepare an investment-related POA from the client's instructions and the receiver's confirmed requirements, identify missing information and coordinate the next document step. Explore our power of attorney services or provide the receiving institution's checklist when requesting a draft.

The Deedbox is a legal-document service. It is not a notary office and not a law firm. We prepare documents and coordinate notarisation, registration, attestation and legalisation through the appropriate licensed parties and authorities. Will registration is performed by the relevant authority — the DIFC Courts Wills Service, the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, Dubai Courts or the Notary Public; we prepare and coordinate, we do not register. Preparing or paying for a document does not mean it has been notarised, registered or accepted by any authority — those are separate steps, and we show you exactly where your case stands at each one.
